Here is a little bit more information about Eta Kappa’s mixers and dances:
The Eta Kappa chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta hosts four dances within a school year. The first dance is Hoedown, typically during the month of October shortly after formal recruitment is over. The members of Eta Kappa and their dates wear country/western themed clothes. There is a DJ, delicious food, and most importantly, our sisters. We dance the night away at Jakes, located across the street from campus.
The next dance is Semi Formal, which is typically within the first two weeks of December before Winter Break. The past two years we have had Semi at Velvet Dog, an upscale lounge located in the heart of Cleveland. However, the location of Semi can vary. Members and their dates step up their attire by wearing dresses and suits.
The first dance in the spring, technically the third in the school year, is again, at Jakes. The theme of this dance varies, where as Hoedown is an annual extravaganza. Some themes we have had in the past are Great Gatsby and Masquerade. Thus, the attire depends on what the theme is.
Finally, the dances conclude with Formal. Formal is typically the end of April. It is one last time that the majority of the chapter will be together before everyone heads off for summer or graduation. Formal isn’t a themed dance, but the location varies. Eta Kappa tries to pick a fun destination in the Greater Cleveland area, like the Zoo or the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In addition to the four dances, Eta Kappa is busy with mixers throughout the school year with the other fraternities and sororities on campus. We have gone apple and pumpkin picking in the fall with Delta Tau Delta at Patterson’s Fruit Farm. Eta Kappa has also participated in a pizza and movie night with Sigma Phi Epsilon. During Greek Week, we had a pasta dinner with the ladies of Kappa Kappa Gamma as well as face painting activity with Chi Omega, and an event with Beta. Recently, we had a cookout with Sigma Phi Epsilon before the first John Carroll football game. Kappa Alpha Theta (Eta Kappa) strives to be as Panhellenic and Interfraternal as possible.
